Arranmore

Located off the West Coast of Ireland the proposed design is conceived as an additional fold in the landscape nestled into the existing rock outcrop and the undulating landscape of the site and surrounding fields. It is proposed to renovate the existing cottage to provide bedrooms and bathroom facilities. A new structure is proposed to the west containing a new entrance hall and living space, the new structure both follows and responds to the topography of the site resulting in a stepped ground floor and folding roof plain The new structure has a green roof, dark stained timber reflecting the colour and heights of the peaty landscape while maximising the views and minimising the visual impact on the surrounding area.

The existing house is to be renovated and a new private garden, incorporating an external shower, will be provided within the existing ‘lean to roof’ area in the east, addressing the master bed and contrasting the wild landscape of the site. A new roof light will be provided to the loft space to provide natural light and sky views from the existing structure
